After growing up in Augusta, I spent five years in Athens and ten years in Atlanta and swore I would never come back. I have been over thirty years now and can’t imagine living anywhere else. I own a small, independent insurance agency on Broad Street and live on the third floor over our office.
I love everything about living downtown. Our first twenty-eight years back in Augusta, we spent on the Hill; and while I loved the neighborhood, I grew to hate the yard work. When we first moved in, we often remarked how we felt like we were on vacation. It’s been almost two years now since we’ve made the move and we still feel that way. It is so nice to be able to walk to our favorite restaurants and clubs, not to mention all the great performances and events that are downtown.
Augusta is an old city with many historic properties and I suppose it is the juxtaposition of that with the liveliness of the rejuvenated downtown that makes it such a unique and attractive place to live, work, and play.
We renovated a historic, 150+ year old building and transformed it into a beautiful living space. And did I mention there’s no yard work?
